Why build Boggy Creek? When a needs assessment was completed
there were over 400,000 non-institutionalized children under the age of 22 in Florida
who had a condition that limits their physical activity and prevents them
from enjoying traditional camp experiences. No permanent facility existed to serve
these children with the level of care they required. Even our earliest supporters
could not have imagined the impact that Camp Boggy Creek would have
on these children and their families.
A Collaborative EffortFrom the beginning, Camp Boggy Creek has built partnerships with hospitals, medical schools, voluntary health organizations, family support groups and healthcare professionals to recruit campers, their families and volunteers. The Medical Facility
The Medical Center is affectionately know as "The Patch." It's where our campers go to get "patched up." This 8,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is designed to be as non-institutional as possible. It's capable of accommodating the full array of treatments for the disease groups we serve. Whether it's a chemotherapy treatment, a dialysis procedure or bandaging a minor cut, the full time staff, supplemented by volunteer specialists makes a trip to the doctor fun. There is even an exam table shaped like a dinosaur! A camp nurse who totes meds in a tackle box, visits campers who need medications during the day! It all helps to insure that our Boggy Creek campers have the time of their lives.

purposely kept in the background so the children can concentrate on
filling their days with all the fun of a good old-fashioned camp
experience.
