Daytona Harley-Davidson 10th Annual Ride for Children Expected to Reach $1 Million Mark

Bikers will be rolling into Daytona Beach later this month for Biketoberfest and raising money for Florida’s seriously ill children for the 10th consecutive year. The 10th annual Daytona Harley-Davidson Ride for Children will rev up Sunday, Oct. 17, and will raise money for Camp Boggy Creek, Florida’s camp for seriously ill children. This year’s Ride will be led by Grand Marshals Paul Teutul, Sr. and Paul Tuetul, Jr. of the Discovery Channel’s popular Orange County Choppers. This year’s event is expected to mark the founding goal of raising $1 million for Camp Boggy Creek.

Bruce Rossmeyer, owner of Ft. Lauderdale Harley-Davidson, Pompano Harley-Davidson, Daytona Harley-Davidson and five other Harley dealerships, will be named a founder of Camp Boggy Creek in the month of October to recognize his tremendous fundraising efforts, which have netted over $1 million. The prestigious founders list includes Paul Newman, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Jim and Jan Moran, Lawrence and Florence DeGeorge, Ted Forstmann, Gracia Anderson (in memoriam), David and Francie Horvitz, Juanita & F. Browne Gregg and the Family of Jennifer Masi.

In 1995, Rossmeyer became involved with Camp Boggy Creek after visiting this amazing camp for children with chronic and life threatening illnesses. He pledged to raise $1 million within 10 years. He has accomplished this through his Daytona Harley-Davidson Ride for Children. This goal could have never been met without the support from so many motorcycle enthusiasts throughout Florida and the Southeast.

Last year, the Ride netted $285,000 for Camp Boggy Creek, a year-round camp for children ages 7-16 who have chronic or life threatening illnesses. The camp, located on 232 acres in Eustis, Fla, allows children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays to enjoy summer camp as just a “kid.” Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children have a chance to enjoy the summer camp experience with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone. There is no charge to attend camp. Camp Boggy Creek is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Registration for the Oct. 17 ride is still open. Several packages are available including a $150 Deluxe Rider package and a $50 basic package.

A pre-ride party will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Plaza Resort and Spa, 600 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach. The ride will depart from Daytona International Auto Mall, at the intersection of LPGA Blvd and I-95 in Daytona Beach at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17. Once at Camp, participants will be treated to entertainment and a meal courtesy of Outback Steakhouse.
