Paul Newman Visits Florida Camp for Seriously Ill Children Paul Newman, Academy award winning actor and co-founder of Camp Boggy Creek, stopped by his favorite Florida fishing hole today to drop a line with a few special kids. Newman, on his way home from a fishing trip in Mexico, stopped by Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Fla., to check on preparations for the summer camping seasons and partake in some afternoon fishing. Camp Boggy Creek is a year-round camp for children ages 7-16 who have chronic or life threatening illnesses. The camp, located on 232 acres in Eustis, Fla, allows children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays to enjoy summer camp as just a “kid.” Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children have a chance to enjoy the summer camp experience with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone. Camp Boggy Creek is always free to children. Camp Boggy Creek is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Newman came up short today without a bite and missed out on the unique Camp Boggy Creek tradition of “catch, kiss your fish and release.” Children and families on site today included campers with Spina Bifida, Heart disease, Rheumatic illness and Cancer. Summer sessions at Camp Boggy Creek begin May 28. Additional information and the full camp schedule are available online at http://www.BoggyCreek.org or by calling Camp Boggy Creek at 866-Go-Boggy extension 252. |
