Central Florida Family’s Donation Makes Golf Course a Reality At Camp Boggy Creek Camp Boggy Creek, Florida’s camp for chronic and seriously ill children, opened its new miniature golf course today to the delight of more than a hundred summer campers. The golf course was made possible through the generous donation of Dan and Julie Kay Jaworski and their family, long-time supporters of Camp Boggy Creek. Camp Boggy Creek is a year-round camp for children ages 7-16 who have chronic or life threatening illnesses. The camp, located on 232 acres in Eustis, Fla, allows these children to enjoy summer camp as a “kid,” not a patient. Campers have a chance to enjoy this traditional camp experience with others coping with the same illness and realize that they are not alone. Camp Boggy Creek is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. There is no charge to children or families to attend. Dan Jaworski, Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of BPI Global Asset Management in Orlando, and his family fully funded the nearly $200,000 project. Since first visiting Camp in 2000, Jaworski and his family have been generous supporters and have volunteered as cabin counselors. Together Dan and his wife have served as family pals for a cancer family retreat weekend. In addition to funding the golf course, he did much of the research necessary to get the project off the ground. The nine-hole course comes complete with working waterfall, rock arch and Florida wildlife sculptures cleverly tucked into the lush landscapes creating elements of visual surprise for players. The course is also lighted, allowing for year-round and evening play during the Camp’s summer sessions and 20 family weekends. Summer camp began May 28 and will continue through August 12. Disease groups attending summer sessions include hemophilia and arthritis, asthma, immunology, pediatric cancer, epilepsy, heart, sickle cell and a blended session for cancer, kidney, irritable bowel disease, and spina bifida. Camp Boggy Creek is currently seeking annual sponsors for golf course holes. To find out more call Camp Boggy Creek at 866-Go-Boggy. |
